What the Ping?

It´s early in the morning here in Duesseldorf, Germany, but I am already awake, eager to test out iTunes 10 and it´s new feature Ping. The first good thing, iTunes 10 is finally ready for download:

The new symbol needs some time to getting used to. They dropped the CD because they find it outdated, but why does the blue circle remind me of one?

First impression of Ping, where have all the colors gone? Everything looks now the same, in this grey blue way. I liked the old better.

Coming to my highlight. Do a little Ping, make a little noise…. To setup Ping you have to register with your iTunes Account. And then Ping will automatically fill out the registration with aaaall your private data. Names, Adresses, etc. And when you then hope for „privacy“…nope. You can´t give yourself some alibi false name or nickname, it uses your real full name. And the only privacy settings are:
1. Everyone can follow you in an instand and your full name will be shown
2. They can just follow you if you let them but you full name is still viewable for everyone
3. No one can follow you and no one can see you

Great, welcome to privacy 2.0 by Apple. FAIL

Now let´s take a look what´s the fuzz is all about.

Doesn´t that just look like facebook? I mean, ok it´s just the beginning, but why should I follow my artists on iTunes when I do that already on facebook, twitter, etc.? And musiclists from my friends? I don´t think I want to hear some speedmetal stuff or girly bands.

Searching for WordPress Webspace

The time has come. I want to switch to my own wordpress side. Blogging on the free and easy WordPress.org was nice, but now I want more. Maybe not a different layout, but I want to be able to change things. Like font size, more plugins etc.

Any ideas?

Update: Now I have searched around and found some interesting offers. Prices ranges are between 0.65 and 4.95 Euros/month.

Update2: Oh boy. Finding a good and cheap hoster is way more complicated, than I´ve expected. The first told me, WordPress is no problem and than wanted to charge me extra for the MySQL Database and now the second one sells webspace, but does want extra money for a subdomain…. grrrrr.

My iPhone 4 and the Death Grip test

Hi there,
of course I had to test the „Antennagate“ myself. So I put a nice little „Death Grip“ around my iPhone and watched. What did I see? My iPhone 4 switched from 3G to GPRS. But it did not lose the connection. When already in GPRS it will maybe lose 1 or 2 bars, that´s it.

Did I noticed anything in daily usage? No, not at all. Never dropped a call or went offline.

WoW in Full HD on a Macbook Pro 2010

There was one thing I wanted to test the hole time. Running World of Warcraft on my 2010 Macboo Pro 13 inch with standard configuration, 2,4 Dual Core Intel and Nvidia 320M. With Starcraft 2 I got a new Trial Version code and today I used it.

Settings were on medium, and resolution was Full HD, 1920×1080, on my HP 2510i. Of course the starting ground was not crowded at all and I had a wonderful time playing with 50-60 FPS. Everything looked ok. Than I discovered the ingame recording tool for Mac and tried it out.

First on HD Ready, 1280×720, but it only recorded about 13-18 seconds and then stopped. I switched to 1920×1080 but this was worse, it canceled just after 1,5 seconds. So I went with 1024×576. No problems here.

During the recording I got 30 FPS and 45 FPS while the video was getting compressed.

Next test will hopefully show a crowded Ogrimmar. So stay tuned.
